Hi, everyone – Pharmeses here! In case you haven’t met me from following Carolina Pharmacy on Instagram, X, or Facebook, I am one of Rameses’ cousins from South Africa. I came to the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy through an alumna and her connections with the nonprofit, Amina’s Gift, which supports education and health care for children across Africa.

I asked the folks at Carolina Pharmacy if I could have some space in here to talk about an upcoming event I’m really excited for – The 30th Annual Pharmacy Alumni Weekend! The Pharmacy Alumni Association (PAA) and the School welcome you back to Chapel Hill on November 10th and 11th to reconnect with other alumni, meet some of the new students, and root on the Tar Heels as they play Duke for UNC Homecoming.

I thought I’d tell you a bit about the exciting things going on those days and why I’m looking forward to attending!

Harold & Carol Kohn Distinguished Alumni Lecture: Write Your Own Script
Friday, November 10 | 4:30pm – 5:30pm with reception to follow
1001 Kerr Hall, or via Zoom

Dr. Hal Kohn was a professor at the School from 1999 to 2015. He and his wife, Carol, established the lectureship to recognize faculty and staff who have empowered alumni achievements, and to inspire current students. This year’s lecturer is Kellie Schoolar-Reynolds, PharmD. Kellie is a graduate of the DPET Fellowship Program and currently serves as the Director of the Division of Infectious Disease Pharmacology, Office of Clinical Pharmacology, Office of Translational Sciences, CDER, FDA. Her lecture, Write Your Own Script, will dive into how to make strategic decisions at key points in one’s career to stay energized and engaged and help carve your own career path. I’m interested in going because, being almost two years old now, I need to start thinking about my career!

Student/Alumni Networking
Friday, November 10 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm
200 Beard Hall – Registration Required

One of my favorite things is meeting the students. They are so brilliant and dedicated – it’s really impressive. This event is your turn to meet the Class of 2027 here in their first year at the School. Groups of students rotate through rooms/stations in Beard Hall to meet alumni and learn about the myriad career paths available to them. Conversations are open to whatever you and the students care to talk about. Light refreshments will be provided, so it’s perfect timing to walk down the hall for this after attending the Kohn Distinguished Alumni Lecture reception!

Pharmacy Tailgate: Beat Dook!
Saturday, November 11 | Time TBD based on football game
Kerr Hall Front Lawn

On Saturday, the Tar Heels take on our greatest rivals, the Duke Blue Devils! Before the game, the PAA and the School are hosting a family-friendly tailgate. Students and alumni are welcome to come enjoy barbecue, games, music, and time with friends on the front lawn of Kerr Hall. I’ll be there to make new friends, play a little cornhole, and stuff my face with banana pudding. The theme of the tailgate is simple: Beat Dook! The tailgate time is dependent upon the timing of the football game and will be confirmed shortly after the game time is announced.

I hope to see you at one or all of these events for the 30th Annual Pharmacy Alumni Weekend! For more details and to sign up, click the button below. Thanks for reading, and GO HEELS!
