Student Voices gives first-person perspectives written by the students of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. For this piece, we hear from Ethan Lee, PharmD candidate ’25, about what makes the School special to him.

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is special to me as I have grown so much both professionally and personally. From the first day of school, I have been greatly welcomed by my peer mentors. They have been a huge role model and shoulder to lean on throughout my first year and I have made me feel like I belong at UNC.

I remember my very first immersion was at the UNC Medical Center and how scary it was coming into a real-world pharmacy environment. My peer mentors helped me get over my fear of speaking up and knowing how to navigate through situations where I would be given a difficult task. As I went through more immersion experiences, I was able to build on the advice my peer mentors had given me to become the best pharmacist I can be one day.

Currently, I have an interest in pursing a career in the industry field of pharmacy. Joining the Alumni Ambassador Committee and Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, I have been able to expand my network and learn so much about the various fields available for pharmacists. If it wasn’t for UNC having a plethora of organizations to be involved in or the wide network of alumni to connect with, I would not have been able to find my passion and interest in industry!

In every immersion I have been in, I have always met an alum of the School and they have always been super helpful in my professional career. I am convinced that there is no other institution where alumni are so engaging and involved with the school.

Along with the professional and academic aspect of school, I enjoy watching UNC basketball games with my friends. Growing up, I was never a huge sports fan but with the unique student culture and sport traditions at UNC, my favorite memories will always be watching the UNC basketball games with my pharmacy friends. Upon graduation, I can proudly say that I will be taking a piece of Carolina with me.
